Uploading Website Files to the Web

Congratulations! You've created your web page, and now it's time to upload everything to the web. You'll need to have a web hosting account, domain name and the login information to access your web server.

If you don't have a web hosting account or domain name yet, no worries.

You can get tips on choosing the right hosting provider on our Web Hosting Reviews page.

Using FileZilla to Upload Web Pages

Video Tutorial Version:

Text Version:
  1. Download a free copy of FileZilla. Then open the program and enter your host name (ftp://yourwebsite.com), username and password into the text fields. Leave the port number blank and press "Quickconnect."

You'll be directed to your web server if your login information is correct.

The web folders and files on the right will indicate what's on the web server.

  2. Double-click on "www" or "public_html" if you're not currently in either folder.

Both the "www" and "public_html" will take you to the pages that are displayed on the Internet.

  3. Navigate to the local files on your computer (in the left pane), which you want to upload. Then select and double-click them to publish the files to the web.
